Tattoos breach the skin, which means that skin infections and other complications are possible, including:
- Allergic reactions. Tattoo dyes — especially red, green, yellow and blue dyes — can cause allergic skin reactions, such as an itchy rash at the tattoo site. This can occur even years after you get the tattoo.
- Skin infections. A skin infection is possible after tattooing.
- Other skin problems. Sometimes an area of inflammation called a granuloma can form around tattoo ink. Tattooing also can lead to keloids — raised areas caused by an overgrowth of scar tissue.
- Bloodborne diseases. If the equipment used to create your tattoo is contaminated with infected blood, you can contract various bloodborne diseases — including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), hepatitis B and hepatitis C.
- MRI complications. Rarely, tattoos or permanent makeup might cause swelling or burning in the affected areas during magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) exams. In some cases, tattoo pigments can interfere with the quality of the image.
Medication or other treatment might be needed if you experience an allergic reaction to the tattoo ink or you develop an infection or other skin problem near a tattoo.
Make sure you're ready
Before you get a tattoo, think carefully about it. If you're unsure or worried that you might regret it, give it more time. Don't allow yourself to be pressured into getting a tattoo, and don't get a tattoo if you're under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Choose the location of the tattoo carefully. Consider whether you want the option to hide your tattoo under clothing. Also remember that weight gain — including pregnancy weight gain — might distort the tattoo or affect its appearance.
Insist on safety precautions
To make sure your tattoo will be applied safely, ask these questions:
- Who does the tattooing? Go to a reputable tattooing studio that employs only properly trained employees. Keep in mind that regulation requirements and licensing standards vary from state to state. Check with your city, county or state health department for information on local licensing and regulations.
- Does the tattoo artist wear gloves? Make sure the tattoo artist washes his or her hands and wears a fresh pair of protective gloves for each procedure.
- Does the tattoo artist use proper equipment? Make sure the tattoo artist removes the needle and tubes from sealed packages before your procedure begins. Any pigments, trays or containers should be unused as well.
- Does the tattoo artist sterilize nondisposable equipment? Make sure the tattoo artist uses a heat sterilization machine (autoclave) to sterilize all nondisposable equipment between customers. Instruments and supplies that can't be sterilized with an autoclave — including drawer handles, tables and sinks — should be disinfected with a commercial disinfectant or bleach solution after each use.
Take good care of your tattoo
How you care for your new tattoo depends on the type and extent of work done. Typically, however, you'll need to:
- Keep the tattooed skin clean. Use plain soap and water and a gentle touch. While showering, avoid direct streams of water on the newly tattooed skin. Pat — don't rub — the area dry.
- Use moisturizer. Apply a mild moisturizer to the tattooed skin several times a day.
- Avoid sun exposure. Keep the tattooed area out of the sun for at least a few weeks.
- Avoid swimming. Stay out of pools, hot tubs, rivers, lakes and other bodies of water while your tattoo is healing.
- Choose clothing carefully. Don't wear anything that might stick to the tattoo.
- Allow up to 2 weeks for healing. Don't pick at any scabs, which increases the risk of infection and can damage the design and cause scarring.
If you think your tattoo might be infected or you're concerned that your tattoo isn't healing properly, contact your doctor. If your tattoo isn't what you expected and you're interested in tattoo removal, ask your dermatologist about laser surgery or other options for tattoo removal.

Firstly tattoos are beautiful, no matter how bad you feel you can hate them, they are still beautiful ( not talking of those that decided to write down a particular quote on their skin, but those with pictures and symbols).

@Glamour: If tattoo is a type of skin modification where ink, dyes and all that are made into the skin as designs - then, tribal marks is a type of tatooing, don't you think? Just wondering.

Quote from Phaithh:It is a local type of tattooing. Our forefathers wanted to be fashionable and not just fashionable but obviously fashionable, that is why they Decided to put the mark on the face( very bold, so that people can see it). # joking# but I have heard grandma's comment on it, telling their kids that they look beautiful or handsome with the mark. It must have also been a way of improving ones beauty in those days.

What most people put on today as clothes are amazing. What we have today is not only a display of insanity but acting the script written by agents of the devil. What is the purpose of putting on clothes? We are so grateful to God for the inspiration of the Holy Spirit on men, to write the Bible. The Holy Spirit carefully addresses all issues of life with practically no exemption. After the fall of man in the Garden of Eden (Gen 3), the glory of God which surrounded him departed from him because God cannot stand sin. Shame and reproach came upon man and his nakedness was exposed. However, God in his infinite mercy provided a clothing of animal skin to cover the nakedness of Adam and his lovely wife, Eve (Gen 3). We can see from God’s word that the main purpose of putting on clothes is to cover nakedness. It is important at this point to note that God is a God of variety (James 1:2, Psalm 8:28) we can see that in the flowers, trees, animals and even in humans. If we look at the flowers carefully and see the beautiful clothes and designs on them, we will appreciate the fashionable mind of God. But we must draw a line between fashion, nakedness and pure insanity.
These agents of the devil have programmed the minds of people with clothes designed from the water with sole purpose of exposing the nakedness of woman. The devil has succeeded in capturing the mind of the designers with most of them being either gays or lesbians and has used them to carry out his mission.

Tattoo designs were beautifully done in the past as part of African tradition. As time went on , it became abused and this made a lot of people detest it.

Well from my own point of view, I think carving tattoos on your body is a bad Idea.
The Bible says know ye now that your body is the temple of God in 1 Corinthians 6:19.
Why would a man just decide to defy the temple of God by putting on tattoos in his body.
Such habits are habits of the western world and they should not be encouraged in this part of the world.

@Davzee:
One of the problem of tattoo is that it is not for all people, for example it is very and more beautiful with people of color, white skin people. And it doesn't out off after you have done it.

Tattoos are neither good nor bad. The decision to get a tattoo is a personal one and depends on individual beliefs, religion, and other factors.
Some religions like Christianity are against tattoos and other religions too.
Some people may view tattoos as a form of self-expression or art, while others may view them as unprofessional or inappropriate. There are also potential health risks associated with tattoos, such as infection, allergic reactions, and scarring, especially if they are not done safely or with proper precautions.
Additionally, some professional workplaces like the banks and hospitals may have policies regarding visible tattoos, so it's important to consider any potential consequences before getting one.
