It has virtually all the known characteristics of a living thing: Movement Respiration Nutrition Irritability Growth Excretion Reproduction, and of course death.
All living things, even microscopic life have systems that are critical to their survival. A few examples here are respiratory and reproductive systems. Living things require these systems to function, so also a business is built on structures and systems.
The two major pillars of business systems are Operations and Sales/Marketing. Everything in the business revolves around these two major areas. Operations have to do with all activities that are essential to the smooth running and continuity of the business. The operations is the support base, while the sales and marketing are revenue generating activities of the business.
You may have started your business as a sole proprietorship, but as the business grows, you must identify key functional areas (just as the human systems consist of organs) that need to be strengthened, and consciously evolve a structure that enables your business to breath and work.
Critical Organs you must pay attention to are : Finance & Account/Auditing Human Resources Customer Services Supply Chain Sales, to mention a few. You must identify critical roles in the business and be intentional about developing new skills in yourself and employees to understand and man these roles. That way, the business begins to evolve and takes on a life of its own.
As your business grows and begins to add layers of complexities, you must continuously ensure to simplify these complexities and codifying your processes and procedures. There are many areas you may need assistance to navigate, and that's why consultants exist to help you.Get knowledge of basic accounting, and such areas as networking, marketing, customer relationship management and of course digital skills for the 21st century business.
Lastly, understand that it takes time to build anything of lasting value. Too many businesses close up too soon. With best practices, focused efforts and strategies, backed by God's grace, you will succeed and your business will stand the test of time.

Business is a lifestyle and it means you create a business around the kind of lifestyle you want. It’s not that you work in your business and then come home and live. Your business supports your life and allows you to create freedom while making an impact in people’s lives.
Before you can attain the life of your dreams, you must define what kind of life you want. What are you working toward? What does success mean to you?
For some, it might mean a job with flexibility that allows them the ability to work from anywhere in the world. For others, it might mean buying a beautiful house with a big yard for their family. In your wildest dreams, what kind of life would you like to be living?
Once you’ve got your sights set on your goals, it’s time to start figuring out how to achieve them. Maybe you’re going to focus on advancing in your current career so that you can increase your income to make your dreams a reality. Or perhaps you’re going to take on a new endeavor, like buying real estate or investing in the stock market. Really take the time to plot out a targeted plan for how you intend to reach your goals.

These points are all well laid as regards a business mindset. Operations have evolved through the years starting with the supply chain.
In most multinationals and even the business world these days, the word supply chain encompasses a lot of cutting across marketing, sales, finance, operations, engineering, etc.
The operations can seem to have made the whole activity of making the said product available through production and other means. Yes, by all means, you can't take it away from the sales and marketing guys. A fully-fledged business is rooted to enjoy growth only when the product reaches the final consumer. Business is all about providing service, and the marketing teams are always there to receive feedback and observe the market trends which they communicate back to the operations.
This is why a proper business mindset should contain a well-established supply chain.
