What to consider before casting your vote

As we draw near to 2023 election, it is important that Nigerians are armed with quality information to help make the electoral process impactful. We are blind to the fact that our past political leaders and representatives have failed us woefully. This is the reason Nigerians are going through hard times, finding it difficult to eat three square meals. In order for us to elect the right leaders, we must consider the following:

1. Leadership experience with track record: we must make sure we vote for a candidate that has great Leadership skills and has the necessary experience to back it up. Only leaders with verifiable track record of transparency, accountability, integrity, sound innovation and human empathy should be selected. Enough of the lies, we should focus on the individual and not the party.

2. Age & Health: leading a nation is very demanding and requires one with sound health both mentally and physically. We know that the aged are fragile and easily fall sick. Hence we should vote for a candidate that is capable of withstanding the rigours of governing a state not the one that would abandon state matters only to travel abroad frequently for medical attention.

3. Innovation: we want a leader with an innovative mind. One that is sound intellectually to come up with great solutions to some of the most pressing issues in our country. The essence of government is to alleviate the suffering of the masses. This can only be achievable by one with an innovative mind.

4. Oratory: A good leader must be impeccable with words. He should be able to communicate with all and sundry in such a way that he would be well understood by the masses. He should also be able to represent the country in the international arena by giving intelligent speech and remark on international issues and events. He should be a good negotiator to be able to get international investors to invest in Nigeria.

5. Good image: a leader should have a good image and must be free from all sorts of Corruption and anti social activities. No one wants a thief or drug peddler to govern a state to avoid them using state resources for their illegal dealings.

Note: it is the duty of every well meaning Nigerian that has the nation at heart to vote. However, they should as a matter of fact carryout research on all the candidates contesting for political portfolio, study their manifestos and their personality to know if they can truly govern the state. Voting for a candidate based on sentiments or inducement would only results to the enthronement of ineptitude and corrupti personalities at the top and this will result to disaster.

It's a good thing Nigerian youths now know better.I've engaged people in conversations regarding choice of presidential candidates and they seem to know who fits the crown.

Some have even agreed that if they are bribed into voting for the wrong candidate, they will collect the bribe and still vote for their choice.

This shows that some people are now 'shining their eyes ooo' as we would say in our local parlance.

@SamuelKingsley93:. Peter Obi is in his early 50's and I don't think that's an issue...
