Lagos is a metropolitan state and to many it is the hub of the nation's economy which is why it is tagged the Center of Excellence.

The influx of people into Lagos everyday is overwhelming and if course most people come into Lagos by vehicles.

Surprisingly, on the Nigerian map, it is one of the smallest states in land mass but in terms of population, it has an overwhelming number.

Virtually everyone in Nigeria have one thing or the other planting their feet in Lagos State.

Commuting in Lagos is an arduous task for so many people, including 'Yours truly'.

On record, over 1.6 million vehicles ply Lagos roads daily. This definitely comes with so much noise pollution and waste of productive time.

Vehicles seem to struggle for space on the roads and even the motorists are never patient. This also causes traffic congestion.

On the contrary, whenever there are fewer cars on Lagos roads, the atmosphere is completely serene, the air is clear and pedestrians enjoy their movements and there's less motor accidents.

There is also the alternative of using the waterways because water transport operators create economically viable routes and terminals.

Do you feel Lagos will survive with more cars on the roads?

We I don't really think the cars are the issues here, I think it is from their mentality. The countries or states in the part of the world that are small in land mass and also has a large amount of cars but they are organised.
The way out is for the people to change their mentality, and also traffic lights and all other controller affiliated with traffic be it the LASTMA or FRSC should do their job well to ensure proper traffic flow in Lagos. More emphasises on the mentality.
It unrealistic for Lagos to have less cars on the road considering it's business environment. So traffic regulators should be in place to apiece the spirits of the traffic so in turn we can have clear air that is pollution free.

So I traveled down to Jos some months and here's what I noticed: Unlike before, the traffic was much and this was even during the day, in the morning.

Before Abuja wasn't like that, there's traffic, quite alright, but we only have them early in the morning when people are going to work. As well as in the evening when people are coming from work. We don't have traffic during the day.

Someone might be wondering why there's a change. Well, for me I didn't have to search deep. My conclusion was that many of those guys in Lagos are moving down to Abuja.

As such the population of Lagos is somewhat decreasing while that of Abuja is increasing. Personally, I believe the measures going on to curb the overpopulation of the place will do the city a lot of favor.

I believe it'll increase the serenity and calmness of the place. I just hope in the process of curbing the population, Abuja wouldn't become the victim that'll end up being the overpopulated city.

@Wonders: I agree with you that the population of Abuja is seriously increasing.

In fact, people are seriously getting tired of Lagos and are relocating.
