The 57 year-old woman was stripped and paraded round the village without clothes ,and palm fronds tied round her naked waist and neck.
The dehumanizing incident which went viral on social media showed her being forced to carry the basket of snails on her head while parading the entire community.
This has sparked reactions and condemnation from members of the public, particularly women groups in Enugu state.
The women groups jointly stated that it was inhuman to strip a woman of her pride because of mere pieces of snails which were not lab- manufactured or already sacrificed to the gods but termed sacred due to archaic laws.
They also condemned the fact that no single person stopped them from carrying such downgrading act and that no plea could erase the memory of the widow's nakedness as they wished it never took place.
They have called for the culprits to be brought to book and made to apologize to the women folk nationwide as well as pay a huge sum to the woman after packing bags of snails to plead with her.

I don't know what to say right now. Like seriously, a 57 years old woman. This is not fair, even if we take their culture to consideration, I think it is best for them to suggest another way to punish her. We don't know if she is a native of the land or just a immigrant. She might just come to the town a year or so and thus, ignorant of the culture of the place she found herself.
But why naked an old woman and force her to walk around a public place especially a busy place like the market. It is totally unjust and wrong in all diversity.
It is just snails not a human being she killed or something.

Hmm, but she did not kill anybody why are they treating her like that? What tribe will do this by stripping a person naked because of snails. Anyways I heard some thing similar to this about the nembe people that you can not go there to pick prewinkle or kill any python because to them it is almost sacred. They see it as there God. So if caught they might kill you.for the prewinkle you can pick it but you cannot take it and sell for anyone. It is there traditional way and right to give such command. So I guess this is why the woman named above had to be embarrassed. She should have known that it is sacred to go to such places.
