The Commissioner in a statement said that:
"It is not just Governor Samuel Ortom that is angry, the Governor represents the people of Benue state, so the people of Benue state are angry with the presidential candidate of the PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar said against the Governor of Benue state because an attack on the Governor is an attack on the people of Benue."
"It is not all about the Governor, it is about Benue state and this derives its strength from the provisions of the 1999 Constitution as amended in Section 4,5. 'Looking and giving the enormity of the powers of the state that are conferred on the Governor by virtue of his election and the Governor is holding power in trust for the state and whatever he does is for the people' he is the mouth piece of the people"
"That is why when he came in as Governor and saw the killings by armed Fulani militia, the House of Assembly followed due process and made a law, the anti open grazing law, which is being implemented in the state."
"Our Governor is not profiling the Fulani. The Miyetti Allah have come out to claim responsibility for the killings in the state and have even taken us to court because of the law which was bring peace and order between crop farmers and herders."
"So I do not see any reason why anybody should be angry with our Governor. If you are angry with the Governor, it means you are angry with the people of Benue state...It is important to note that in this Government we have appointees who are Fulanis which shows that Governor Ortom and Benue people have nothing against Fulanis who live with us."

I strongly believe that it's because they do not see the possibility of Atiku protecting them from such attacks in the future if he becomes president.
His silent or nonchalant reactions in previous attacks is what they are reacting to.

This is a good example of a state that refused to be bribed. Unlike many other states that the Governor went ahead to render support for people that don't worth it.
Just as explained in the article. The Governor is the mouthpiece of that state. This necessities the need to put a God-fearing person on that governorship throne.
This is because it is whatsoever the governor does that the people will follow suit and do. These people that's how the system functions. It's so refreshing that we still have such leaders.
