Hobbies » WHICH STATE IN NIGERIA HAS THE HIGHEST RATE OF YOUNG MOTHERS by: Gentleman1(m) .:. Fri, 18 Oct, 2019 - 10:35:33:am GMT
During my NYSC, at my PPA (Place of Primary Assignment) in Abia state, i noticed a 14yr old girl with a child in the school i was teaching and i asked her who owns the child she said hers, i puzzled for a while and became mute trying to reason it all.
I also went to Bayelsa State, and i saw a 13yr old girl pregnant and i started to reason how come. And i noticed some states also in Nigeria with so many young mothers and some States, they seem to see nothing wrong at all with it.
re"> Thinking about the rate by which this Young mothers emerge, i thought about reasons why it may have been happening and i thought of these:
re"> 1: lack of Development and awareness in those states.
after thinking about it, i realised that those places with young mothers are mostly from rural settlements. They don't have awareness whatsoever about how to abstain from such and then they become victims of circumstance
re"> 2: too much freedom at tender age or the lack of care by the parents in those states, i realised that in most states in Nigeria, some care so much about their children while some dont care because they see it as norms.
re"> 3: The developed states have a lot of restrictions from local association which helps the young ones from the other sex till they grow to the higher institution level.
re">
re"> What state do you think has the highest rate of Young Mothers?

A lot of teenagers go into marriage as a result of desperation and frustration.  Awareness should be created  to correct this impression that marriage is the solution to problems.  Your problems increases when you get married for the  wrong  reasons.

Early marriage in Nigeria is very common, even at the rate at which civilization is taking over, we still have high rate of teenagers marriage in Nigeria.

Cause of Early marriage in Nigeria.
1. Lack of Parental Care: in Nigeria, there are lots of parents who don't care about their children daily affairs, they don't know how the children are doing, they show no concern in their daily activities.  All they do, is to go out and get food for them. Some don't even provide food for their children, you'll see children if 14 years hustling to survive. A child that's supposed to be in school is in the street hawking pure water or groundnut. It's extremely bad.

2. Lack of supervision.  some parents will leave their children with their neighbour of friend to work and when they return, they won't care to know what happened while they were away. I'm not saying, you should suspect your neughbours of harassing your child, but always check on the child, ask him or her questions to know if they were not harassed while you were away. It's very important.

3. Lack of love. Some parents don't show care and live to their children, some will want to get that live from a boyfriend, and that's where all begins, once they start having boyfriend, they'll start having sex then suddenly, they'll be pregnant.

This is the few I have to say. Please parents, you have lots of work to do in your children's lives.

Talking about the tribe with the highest rate of child marriage in Nigeria is the Hausa Tribe. Let's leave this, tribe or no tribe, child marriage is a bad tradition to be abolished. It's called "a child getting married and giving birth to a child". These girls are too small for goodness sake? These girls don't go to school, and if they do, they will either stop at the primary or secondary level. This is not fair!

Coincidentally, a watched a movie (more like a documentary) just last night. It created awareness about the negative effects it has on these young girls. Can you imagine? A 9 year old girl marrying a man of 40, and her parents seem not to find anything wrong in it? She's not even an adolescent yet let alone an adult! This is child abuse!
According to the country's constitution, the legal age for marriage is 18+.
Marriage needs emotional, physical, intellectual, medical and spiritual maturity before being contracted. These girls are dying - etopic pregnancy, cancer, childbirth labour, stress, trauma, physical abuse.

I've read through the comments and seen reasons why child marriage is condoned. But no matter how pathetic the reasons are, child marriage is not an option. Free these girls. Allow them go to school and make out of themselves someone great. Leave them alone!

Government should look into this and abolish it.

I traveled ones to Kaduna state .

>and I don't like what I saw then, young girls with pregnancy, and I wonder how it happened, maybe they don't have parents or they were raped.
>And I end up with salama a friend there she's a well trained girl,I asked her different questions about how the Hausa's end up with pregnancy at a tender age.
>she said when an Hausa girl is born in a particular home ,there will be a man that will come ask for her hand in marriage at that age .
>And by the time the girl is up to age of puberty, she would be taken to her husband's house .
Then she gets pregnant already.
>And am like salam why haven't you get married.
she said that she's educated and that her parents are too,her dad didn't allow such to happen to them ,because they know the repercussions .
may God help us in Nigeria.
the Hausa's have the highest number of young mothers

@Jegiyasa: Do you know I once thought the Hausa tribe practiced this Child marriage in the past? But I got to discover that they are still practicing it now, I mean, NOW. It's so so devastating. The awareness being created to the general public is not even stopping them.

And you will keep hearing ridiculous stories - a 10 year old girl and a 40 year old man?
I'm not trying to be tribally biased, but how can parents give up their young (very young) daughters to old men or even young men all in the name of marriage? Something is definitely wrong with this practice and the tribe. They should eradicate this so called practice because it's not helping our young girls.
These girls are just too small to be penetrated by those old men.

Thank GOD the educated ones are beginning to see the light - it's child abuse truly.
Education is really helping situations but the problem is - not every one of them is willing to embrace education. It is well.

True to your observation, I have a friend from Rivers state who told me that young ladies take pride in being single mothers.

They see it as being fruitful before getting married. If a lady amongst such decides to keep the bed undefiled, they regard her as being childish or not in their class.

Only a God fearing & focused  lady can take a firm stand against such lifestyle.
What a funny world we live in.

Which state in nigeria has the highest rate of young mother

Well for me i can't  say  a particular state but  what  I see about  this  issue  is  that the youth  of the country needs  to undergo sex education, sex education is very  important it will  enable  the youth to know more about sex and unwanted pregnancy, the rate of young mother in the country is ramped this days, so taking about which  state has the highest rate it  happen  in all states you  will see a girl of 14 years  old carrying  a   baby, well some people will say it  happens in the rural areas of the country only I disagree with that it happened both in the  rural areas of the country and also in the  urban  areas of the country, in this case  not  all will be  thought in school  parents should  also  teach their children mostly the female children tell them the fact about  sex let them be aware that protection is very important in sex if they feel like doing it, let them have the understanding that raw sex or sex with out protection leads to  unwanted pregnancy parents give your children the appropriate orientation

Nigeria youth need to undergo some certain training about the real word they have to be aware of the truth and trik of life.

In these cases it is all over the country not a single state , there are different cases but similar in nature such as single mother, unwanted pregnancy, abortion.

The younge adult both male and female are to be conscious of how they have sex ,sex is good right but there should be protocol and process not just having sex with out a plan.
What is the benefit of having a child and you are unable to take good care of the children.

Case like these is not only in Nigeria only but African country general, in taking the statistics of young mother in Nigeria it is very high , now those guys who impregnate them where are they ,they are alive but not responsible.

Girls of fifteen years old, sixteen years old getting pregnant how did they wont to go about it ,did they have the knowledge of motherhood .
Parent get close to your children ask them questions about their life questions like .who is your boyfriend, who is your girlfriend.
If you ask them they will definitely say something.

In the past, it was the northern states.
As things are, I can say you find young mothers in all states.

The main reason is lack of responsible parents everywhere.
This is what happens when parenting comes without a plan.
The children grow to cater for themselves.
In fact, some families are surviving on their children.

It takes a determined girl to stay focused and pursue her goals in life.

You can't judge such a thing without having statistics of all the states. You see young mothers are now common in every state and the pathetic thing is that they are not ashamed of it.

We now live in a world where young girls no longer value their careers or think about their life aside from relationships; I am not saying the relationship is bad or you shouldn't date but there's time for everything.

Early dating is the reason why many young girls become pregnant and love of the money/ support of immoral acts by society is the reason why they are not ashamed. We all need to be our sisters' keepers by guiding them and training them.

Religious leaders should learn to organize a get-together that will help to open the eyes of our young girls and boys. They should learn to take about sex education; our parents should learn not to shy away from such things so that children won't get it outside.

**Always put God first **
