Properties/Estates » THE MENACE OF BUILDING COLLAPSE IN COLLAPSE by: Obajichi(f) .:. Fri, 26 Aug, 2022 - 05:48:26:pm GMT
A building is meant to house ,give shelter or protect for whatever it is meant for.

Buildings are not constructed for them to come crumbling down in one fell swoop.

Materials for building must be certified by the Standard Organisation of Nigeria.

The reoccurrence of building collapse in the country has become one too many.

The cocoa house 26 -storey building in Dugbe, Ibadan -Nigeria is one solid structure that still stands since 1965.It was constructed by Cappa D'Alberto and built from the proceeds of cocoa exportation. Despite being gutted by fire in January 1985, due to malfunctional electrical equipment, it was renovated in 1992 and is still being used for commercial purposes.

In the last ten years, building collapse has become a regular thing. One cannot rent an apartment without fear of the quality of materials used in building.

Landowners are in such a haste to make quick money by leasing or letting out that they care less about the quality of the materials used.

Valuable and innocent lives are lost due to negligence from all involved. It is when disaster has happened that we start calling all and sundry.

It's high time people are made to pay for their negligence and avoid apportioning blames.

What is your take on this?

**I love being me.**
