When we wake up in the morning, they first thing we do is to check our phone for notifications and quickly slide in to our various social media platforms such as WhatsApp, Facebook or IG. Before praying in the morning, or brushing teeth. It seems like we prioritize our phone more than anything in our life.
Partners keeps complaining that their partner are always on their phone and do not give attention as much as they do to their phones. Children keeps complaining about their parents not giving them ample time like the way do with their phones and Parents on the contrary, watching their child dedicating their life's to social media.
These are all instances, we are all guilty of. It proves that social media is controlling our lives. It proves that Phone addictions is real.

In countries like Nigeria, a normal phone for cost about 30-50,000 naira. A quality phone cost about 60-800,000 naira upwards. Youths and teenagers most times uses the type of phone one uses to identify their class. Teenagers who can't afford expensive phones like the iphones and get stuck with a mid-range phone can easily get depressed.
Let me go a bit on the iphones. The latest version of the iphone which is the iphone 13 series in Nigeria cost around 500-800,000 naira. Due to peer pressure, youth and most teenager saves money, work very hard just to get an iphone to feel among. And when they do purchase an iphone that's worth up-to 200-300,000 naira, look at most of their families, their houses, they place much value on their phone than on their selves.
A boy using a 13 while his mom is frying akara in the street, a girl doing hookups, prostitution just to afford one. Likewise a boy doing internet fraud just to purchase an iphone, just to feel among. Its simple depicts the picture that phone addiction is real, its shows that having an expensive phone gives them confident, you are now rich.

We now let the phone now depict how we live our lives. Viewing a wealthy person your age or below your age online, lavishing his money on luxury and unnecessary things suddenly makes some persons sad and heavily depressed looking for ways to be wealthy like that in a small amount of time. Not knowing what the person ventures in to make their money. That's why the alarming rates of robber can't just drop but just keep on increasing.
Relationship is another disaster too. A girl can't follow a poor guy any more or middle-class guy because of social media influences on her choice. "Before i date you, you must have an expensive iphone, must have at least one car, not just any car expensive cars like Benz, G-wagon ,etc. He must have a house, a duplex is more qualifying, a stable source of income and so on." If the guy is not up to that standard it is a 'No No' for them. Yeah its cool with you having that standard for yourself but not social media have a role in that sis.
How is the guy suppose to feel now? that he's less of a man? some guys cause of this, can venture in to robber, rituals and internet fraud just to fit in.

These are just few relatable dark sides of phones that we are a victim of or know someone who is. A phone is just an asset and it should remain like that. It should not be your life dictator. We should wake up.
Okay, phones are cool, expensive phones are much cooler, I'm not against iphone user of any sort. if you feel like buying this phone can solve a particular problem or make you feel better, go ahead. All I'm saying is that phone should not be our life dictator not but God should.
