A 19 -year-old man identified as Marvelous Awolowo popularly known as Bryan Evan and Sandra Kate have been convicted and sentenced to 12 months imprisonment over internet related offences on November 11, in Illorin ,Kwara State.
This ruling was passed by Justice Adebayo Yusuf of the Kwara State High Court.
According to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), through their Head Media and Publicity , Wilson Uwujaren, Marvelous an indigene of Kogi state, was arrested based on credible intelligence in October ,2022 , at the International Airport, Illorin,Kwara State.
Upon arrest, an Infinix 55 lite phone was recovered from him. The phone was analyzed and several incriminating documents were printed from his emails.
Thorough scrutiny on his profile revealed that , Marvelous had impersonated one Evans Bryan and Sandra Katty using fictitious emails yo to swindle unsuspecting victims .
He defrauded Evan Bryan of the sum of $1000 after deceiving him to believe he had instructed one Blacck to send him $14,500.
Marvelous has has also acted as a 'Picker' for his fellow internet fraudsters who he helped to receive illegally obtained funds through his bank account.
The suspect was arraigned on two counts, to which he pleaded guilty.
He was sentenced tobsix months imprisonment on each of the two counts, to run concurrently with #100,000 as option of fine on each count
