peace or absolute peace is an utopian concept that is unattainable but should this justify violence..the answer is no...but in our strive for peace or change we must have it at the back of our mind especially in times if stability. we should have a foresight of potential conflict by putting in place early warning signal this is one area where higher institution in Nigeria have failed.

most tertiary institutions in Nigeria posses conflict management (in some cases conflict prevention) mechanism but they lack conflict detector mechanism. they teach prevention is better than cure but how can you best prevent conflict if you don't put in place mechanism to detect it before it transform into full blown violence.

a perfect example is what we call student union in our tertiary institutions. over the years student union have been known to lead violent or peaceful protest in the academic environment.

this historical experience, methodology and achievements of student union over the years have generated a stereotype of how student union and their leaders should operate. the general idea is that most student union and their leaders believe they can only leave a legacy by leading protest to effect change..the consequence of this, is an increase in violent protest in Nigerian tertiary institutions and the erosion of democratic practices amongst student body.

hence there is need for leaders of tertiary institutions in Nigeria to look at how they can address this issue. Although from the above we can see that any proffered solution must include the re-orientation of student bodies so as to prepare their minds for the task before them and to enlighten them to make use of democratic processes towards addressing their grievances.

There are 3 C's of aluta and this C's are the slogan of the student union when it comes to protesting.

The first C stands for consultation. This implies that they have to consult the school authorities when there's an issue on ground they feel the school need to address.
When the school authorities doesn't give ears to the students plea.
The Union would make use of the second C which is consolidation.
Here the union becomes more forceful and weight in the struggle by including other stakeholders, entities and organizations which may help meddle in the struggle. It is a kind of improved consultation.
If the school authorities are still stubborn about the issue, then the Union makes use of the last C which is to confront.
This is done with a protest.
But make attimes the protest gets too emotional that the students get out of control.
This is where the protest becomes too violent.
That part where students are becoming too violent, I expect the union mem today coordinate the students, but many attimes the union members also gets carried away with the protest.

Students Union government  are  association which stand and represents students in the  higher institutions, students Union government are to make  sure that  the  welfare of the students is adorable.

In our  various  tertiary institutions should be a union  which  will forster all the school activities, then are to make sure that  the school  environment remain in peace and they should also silent any form of  violence in the school premises.
