Plato State Governor Simon Lalong on Tuesday warned civil servants not to be used by politicians to obstruct their government's programs and projects, especially at a time of political activism in the state.
Lalong was speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of 10 new permanent secretaries appointed by his government at Government House on Tuesday.
The governor congratulated the new appointees on the fact that they have passed the necessary test and vetting and have reached the highest level of public service that has been found suitable for appointment to this high office.
He said his hard work over the years has been rewarded for his commitment to the development of the nation and Nigeria.
Lalong: "Let us write a warning letter to those appointed, we will not tolerate disorder, negligence, dishonesty and abuse of power. If you engage in any irregular behavior, you will be shown the door and subject to all disciplinary action.
"This warning is important because we are reaching the peak of politics where the examination is not honest highest. Instead of entering politics, we must focus on implementing government projects, programs and policies that will allow us to deliver our mandate to the public.
"Thus you will inscribe your name in gold in the annals of the achievements of the Security Administration and set yourself up for great service to the country and the nation in the future."
The governor asked the new permanent secretary to consider the job as a big challenge to show what they are made of and show that they really deserve it.
"This is not the time to come in and think you're going to be lazy and grandiose and drunk on power. The civil service is a structured bureaucracy and has a long history of rules and regulations. At this point, you don't need to learn about the terms of service.
"However, I want to remind you to work on the service plan to avoid problems or endangering the system," he said.
Lalong asked the appointee to make extra efforts to improve the position and set a good example for the officers expected to lead, saying that they must maintain the qualities of probity, responsibility, honesty, fairness and justice.

He's sounding this warning because he knows that most of them have already been bought over by politicians.
Nevertheless, many of them will not heed to that warning.
If they practice it with sincerity, then I see no problem in that.
