One way a new and upcoming artist can promote him or herself is by going to the radio and paying for time, for their songs to be aired on the radio network.

How it's done is that, based on their discussion and agreement, the song is played for a number of times per day, until the subscription expires.

I used to wonder when radio presenters say, let's go to the market and pay some bills, what it meant and still means... I think I do. People private and other bodies have paid for specific things and these things must be publicised by the radio network, so the reason for the market, lol.

But how cost friendly is it for an average artist, just coming up and wants their track to be jammed on air.

It usually scares a lot of people because the prize for time on radio is usually high these days, especially when their is competition among other radio stations.

But this shouldn't be. If you are an OAP here or an artist who have successfully paid for time on air before, please let us know how it was for you then and whether it's still a viable opportunity especially now when there's a whole lot of other ways people can air themselves.

Wow, this is interesting! I never knew this is how these things work. Till tomorrow, I'd forever be grateful to Beneyoyo. It's really a great place to be. I can't begin to count the number of things I have learned in this forum.

How I wish we can have an upcoming artist in this forum who knows so much, that way he/she can explain more. But if we have an upcoming artist here, and they don't know about airing their songs and paying for the airing as well on radio stations, Am sure they'd also be very grateful for this information.

All my life, I used to think, those radio stations just play any song they want. But if musicians have to pay for their songs to be aired on radio stations, how about on TV?

I mean we have several music stations on DSTV such as Soundcity, Urban TV, Afro Music English, do those musicians play for those songs we do watch?
**Wonders**
