The following are the profitable approach to fasting and prayer
1. You must accept JESUS as your Lord and savior:- Jesus is the the only way that you can reach to God without him in your life your prayer and fasting are in vain. Know Jesus as the only solution to your problem before you engage in fasting and prayer.
2. You must forgive those people that offend you.:- For you to have a profitable approach to fasting, you must know how to forgive those who offend you as GOD forgive you your own sin. no matter what people do to you know how to forgive. Mark 11v 25 to 26. Let it go and forget about it. If you don't forgive those who hurt you God will not forgive you too. Matthew 6v12 to 15 pray for the spirit
3. You must be remember the will of the word of God:- Isaiah 43v 26. 1 John 5v14 you must always remember the will of God all the time by reading the word of God Bible.
4. Engage in praying for the needs of others:- When all things was lost for Job he also pray for his friends despite the situation he found himself, despite all bad things and calamity he pray for his friends and God turn his darkness into light and return his captive. Proverbs 11v25. What so ever you give out will surely come back to you in return. You can give materially
5. You must come with assurance of Faith :-Without faith it is impossible to please God. After sow seed, praying fasting you must have faith that God has answer your fasting and prayers and request.

Therefore in summary, for one to engage in fasting and prayer, and obtain result, such a person must be a Christian.
Being a Christian, simply means having God's life, God's nature in you and living in conformity with that life which you have received. .
Such a person lives in purity, in love, in righteousness, in holiness, above all that is called sin and in perfect communion with God, therefore, all utterance of request (prayer) to God by such a person will be answered.
It is also important to note that fasting and prayer, do not cause God to answer one's prayer request, but, it is what such a person who offers the prayer has become in the sight of God, thar compels God to answer.
The act of Prayer and Fasting only separates us from distraction caused by our physical environment.
