Back in the mid-90s, R-kelly, Usher, Remedies and a whole lot of musicians cum raves of the moment at that time were doing new school music. Fast Forward to 2015, and their music is already tagged old school by teens. Funny how time flies. But are there really old school music or, they just turn old when new sounds appear? As a lover of music, I'd say all music are new, but to conform with the new school and old school music theory, I'll like to make differences between both from my perspective.

Old school music are songs that are already a decade old at any current point in time. New school music are song reigning at a time, especially the fusion or blend of two genres that made up old school music

Old school music have old trends in their videos and songs. Old slangs, old dances, old cliches et al. New school music promotes new trends and whatever is reigning at the moment.

Old school songs singers are quite old at the moment and are probably no longer singing on records. New school songs are mostly youth-oriented

Production of old school music were mainly analog. Recording sessions were tedious and rehearsals upon rehearsals were done in order to perfect the about-to-be-recorded song.
In this digital age, new school music production comes with ease, people record in the comfort of their living rooms. Artistes even record without rehearsing, just freestyle on a hot beat and you are on your way of making that hit song.

At the end of the day, no music is actually old school or new school in musical terms. Just a shift of season and times are what happen to our music scene. All that is new will become old, just as all that is old became new.

Whether old skul or new skul songs that are good will forever be remembered ,there are some old skul songs that are forgotten already and there are some new skul songs that are still remembered .The only thing i think about the new skul music is that the singers sing in connection with what they are facing or what the situation is as at that time. And when the situation goes the song is easily forgotten .
I feel music is music whether old skul or new skul ,depending on what u want to use it for .One can want to use it cool temper ,another might want to just dance etc.Depending on what you play it for old skul or new skul is good and can be remembered by anybody.

@ACETONE: I quite agree with you. Old skul songs were the best, the inspirations coming from the right source. The right beat and heart touching lyrics makes one literally float on the air. But nowadays, I wonder where the inspirations comes from, from the dirty lyrics to the crazy beats, I shake my head in pity. Music of nowadays can corrupt the heart and soul. Vulgar lyrics and obscene videos! Music is like a spirit, it minister to the heart of the listener.

When you are exposed to songs that talks about sex and money, at the end, the heart will start thinking in that direction and you eventually see yourself doing those things.

Thank GOD for Spirit-filled gospel songs!

Regarding quality I would vote for old school Music like the Lyrics are deep, meaningful.Just Check Sunny Ade,Ebenezer Obey. This Men are Kings they pass messages through songs not like some new school songs that the only thing they sing about is Money,Women,Scam....What message are they passing to the Youths
I am still bopping to Old School Music,This Songs rock.

@ACETONE: you're right old school music are evergreen songs and they cannot be forgotten, some of my favorite old school musicians I still love listening to their songs up to this moment are the likes of the late Michael Jackson, Phil Collins, usher Raymond, Westlife, Boyz II men. etc these following people are some old-school musicians and their songs can never be forgotten on planet Earth. But for me I won't lie I'm into new school music. music has improved for years now ,modern day music we have this days are r&b, blues, afrobeat, Pop, country music, hip-hop trap etc. I personally I'm a huge fan of rap music and these days rap music has evolve into what we call trap music, some of my favourite rappers are 2 Chainz, the migos, late juice wrld, pnb rock, Tory lanez trippie Redd. I really love good music, I write songs, I sing and rap. In conclusion I just want to say the new school music for me is the best. Thank you.
