The Edo State Governor,Mr. Godwin Obaseki has stressed the need for the church to actively participate in politics to enable them effectively contribute their quota to national development.
He gave this charge in Benin City, Edo State,while addressing delegates at the fifth National Eucharistic Congress held at St. Paul Minor Seminary.
Catholic delegates and faithful from other parts of the country were present at the Congress over the weekend.
Obaseki noted that, the church had always intervened in community health care, education, land acquisition and spiritual healing for citizens whenever the government failed.
Gov. Obaseki called on the Catholic church to go the extra mile and help on governance of the country.
He said the country was going through a tough time but that she needed the prayers and collaboration of the church to overcome the challenges she has found herself.
Obaseki reiterated that God wants Nigerians to learn from the lessons of the situation which is why we are passing through these problems .
He also noted that the Catholic Church has a great role to play in the world today as it is one of the most organized institutions.
He hailed the Catholic bishops in the state for their support for his administration as they had always ensured the success of his government.

Nice, who will ever thought that Obaseki would encourage or urge Christians to participate in Politics. It is beautiful for persons to recognize the power of the church over the country especially the Governor. Praying for the country is what we believers just have to do; declaring good things over this land, is what Nigeria really need.
