Suspected Fulani herdsmen have reportedly retaliated against Tiv farmers in Nasarawa State after bombing suspected herdsmen at the Benue/Nasarawa state border recently. This, Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom said is wrong. linking his government to murder.

However, Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has explained that the drone was used to drop the bomb that killed 27 herdsmen in Kwateri, adding that the bomb was not dropped by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) aircraft as expected in some areas.

However, the Tiv community of Nasarawa State yesterday alleged that the ongoing attacks and killings in the southern part of Nasarawa state were in revenge for the recent attacks on innocent Tiv people by suspected armed herdsmen.

The president of the Tiv Development Association (TIDA) in Nasarawa State, Mr. Peter Ahemba, gave the warning while speaking with journalists in Lafia yesterday, asking the federal and Nasarawa state governments to urgently intervene and stop the attacks and killings.

He further alleged that Tiv people have been targeted and singled out for attack by heavily armed herdsmen, adding that many innocent Tiv farmers have so far been killed and displaced from their communities in Doma, Keana and Obi Local Government Areas.

Ahemba, in an intelligence report at the disposal of TIDA leaders, indicated that heavily armed herdsmen were mobilized to ensure the eradication of Tiv villages in the southern zone and parts of Kokona and Nasarawa local governments. from the Tiv people in the country.

He said:" many people have been killed and thousands displaced from Doma, Keana and Obi LGAs by armed herdsmen in the last few days".

"Chabo village was reduced to dust. There was a deadly attack on Ajo village in Koma LGA, as the entire Tiv population in Doma has been displaced, many more people were killed trapped in remote villages," said the president of TIDA.

He described the attack on Tiv farmers as barbaric and said the government knew nothing about the recent airstrikes which the Tiv people used as an excuse for the mass killing of Tiv farmers and destruction of their property.

"We are calling on the federal and state governments to help us by deploying security operations to our towns in the affected LGAs. Sundanese people are still trapped and running from the roots that have been closed by herdsmen who are slaughtering like all animals," said Ahemba.

Meanwhile, the Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, explained his administration on the alleged killings in an airstrike in a town in Nasarawa State.

The governor said neither he nor his administration had anything to do with the tragedy.

He said that he did not order anyone to do such a thing, and that he had no authority to order such airstrikes that resulted in killings.

Governor Ortom was speaking yesterday at Holy Cross Parish, Ogbolokuta, Ulayi in Ado Local Government Area at a thanksgiving service for the official inauguration of the Parish House built by him.

As opposed to misrepresentation, he explained that this could be the result of intelligence gathered by a superior military power.

Knowing why he will be associated with this incident, the mayor said that it is bad to try to associate with something that no one knows.

Commenting on the enmity between the people of Ezza community in Ado local government and the neighboring state of Ebonyi, the governor said he is working with Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi state to stop the ongoing conflict between the two brothers.

He announced that a peace meeting between the two state governments would be held to show their commitment to ending the crisis so that the people could return home.

Ortom told the people that the border was meant for administrative convenience and to separate people.

According to him, Ezza people, despite speaking Igbo, are the original indigenes of Benue State and should be protected by the government.

He also assured that there are ongoing efforts to amend the state chiefs law, adding that the Ezza community should be given the opportunity to lead their people by appointing traditional rulers.

He directed the Chairman of Ado Local Government Council, Hon James Oche, to ensure that the matter was presented at a public hearing to review the Chieftaincy Act.
