Jungle Justice or mob Justice is a form of extrajudicial killings in sub-saharan Africa, most notably in Nigeria and Cameroon, where an alleged criminal is humiliated, beaten or summarily executed by crowd or vigilantes. Treatments can vary from a muddy treatment where the perceived perpetrator is made to roll  in mud for hours to severe beatings followed by necklacing. This form of street justice occurs  ad wherey a dysfunctional and corrupt judiciary system and law enforcement have lost all credibility.European   principle of justice have likewise become discredited.

It is wrong.

 Here are my reasons :
  The innocent suffer:
Sadly, there's always someone who will be at the wrong place at the wrong time, who would get roped into the mix unfortunately .'Justice 'is served without investigation ,while the cruel hearts live till eternity.

 Never justifiable:
No individual has the right to take the life of another human ,regardless of your faith in the country's judicial system.Extra judicial killing is synonymous to injustice because ironically the so called suspects are denied the right to be proven right or wronging in the  court of law.

 Self righteousness;
One look at you and the world knows you are one frustrated human, many thanks to the seemingly unending hardship .Any opportunity and you take out your anger on yet another frustrated human while you scamper disgracingly for little change paraded by the very architect of your woes during elections.

Jungle justice or not, crime still persist .It's been the old way dedicated to deterring hardened criminals to desist from crime from generation to generation. However ,this has barely proved effective as crime seems to be on the upscale in the present day.

Someone  people  are  so wicked, I can just  imagine  how  a person  will  kidnapped  another  person  child  for ritual  and when  been  caught  and handle  to the  nearest  force  office , the next  thing is that you won't  heard any thing  about  it  again  all will  be  buried . There are  lots  of  criminals  out there the cases of  crime  increase day by day, criminals are so wicked  some  criminals  go for  robbery  and open  fire on people, now if caught by  people  and  are been  handled  over to the nearest  force  office, for  about  some  weeks  the  criminals  will  be released  and be moving  all around  in the  society.

Jungle  justice  should  be  done  on any criminals  been  caught, he who  killed should also  be  kill, jungle justice should  be  allowed  in the  community  because someone else children  who have  been  killed  can't be  woke up again, if there is  jungle justice the rate of  crime cause will reduce  a little  bit
Jungle justice should be encouraged, if a person  do not  involved  in  crime  he will  not  face  jungle justice.. Be worn if you  are  the  type  of  wicked  soul  change  for better

Jungle Justice is wrong because we aren't meant to take laws into our hands. Most times when jungle Justice is done the consequences are always terrible.

But sometimes you can't blame people for engaging in jungle Justice because of how untrustworthy the Nigerian police force can be sometimes.
Some result to jungle Justice because they know if the case gets to police station the individual might be released after paying some fee.

jungle justice is not right

taking laws, into your hands to take someones life is not right. we have our politicians stealing our money everyday but they are walking free and no one is confronting them.
the right thing to do is to handover the offender to the law enforcement agencies for the person to be judged according to the law.

@Olatoke:It is common knowledge that people  no longer have trust in the police and other  security agencies because of this issue of bribery and corruption. We have  seen and heard of case where suspects were released probably  because they are connected to people in high places or proper investigation was not carried out. This does not justify jungle justices. If people should go about putting justice into their own hands, what is the essence of the Constitution?

In most cases innocent people lose their lives to jungle justice. A case study is  the story  I read in one of the newspapers recently. Armed robbers invaded a community in a state in South Western part of Nigeria and the youths of the community  came out and they caught a guy . According to the wife of the guy that was caught ,she said when she heared that one of the robbers had been caught ,she  went out only to discover that it was her husband and she started begging and telling them that her husband being a carpenter went  to another part of the state for a job , finished late and that was was why he entered the community late. This guy was beaten to death in the presence of his wife and other community members attesting to his integrity.

This is just one of many cases in Nigeria where many innocent people have lost their lives to jungle justice.

Jungle justice is so so so wrong! I quite understand that people can be hardhearted and cruel and that our arm of government responsible for punishing criminal offences might be unfunctional but it's not still right to take law into our hands.

Reasons Why Jungle Justice is Wrong

1. Innocent lives are being wasted - the reason why we look up to the criminal agencies for punishment of  offences is that they carry out investigations properly. These people are well trained in criminology. When we take laws into our hands, without proper criminal skills the wrong people fall into the trap.

I've heard of people being burnt alive all because they stole petty stuffs like pepper, phone etc. in which following the law doesn't warrant a such a death penalty.

2. It will all come back to the law courts - the family and relatives of the deceased might start up a protest parade which we turn the country into chaos and the matter might eventually get to court (which was being avoided in the first place).

3. The cremator(s) or killer(s) will face judgement - "he who kills by the sword will go by the sword". As far as  you are not a law/criminal agency, killing another person is a crime and a sin which will come back to you.

All stated, let's leave the judgement and execution of these bad people to the criminal agencies and if they fail to carry out their responsibilities, GOD who is the consuming fire and the just judge will definitely purnish them.

Sometimes, I feel indifferent to this issue. The pain of the crime committed is what incites people into unleashing this kind of punishment.

On the other hand, it is somewhat necessary to grant the criminal, fair hearing because he might have been accused or set up.

It us painful when an innocent person is accused if a crime he / she knows nothing of,especially if jungle justice has been meted out before realizing his innocency.

     Moreover, some offenses are pardonable.

Jungle justice right or wrong.
The situation of the country is getting worst  everyday, the number of  crime cases keep on increasing day by day, people no longer have the fear of God  in their  heart anymore. Jungle justice is wrong  according to the Constitution of Nigeria it was wrong  if you  catch  anyone  who misbehave in the community hand over  such  person  to the security officer or the nearest police station don't  judge by yourself. But if you  look at the  crime  some  people  have committed it is  not  funny at all do that  why people  take action some time on criminal. I can just  imagine  how a grown up man will kidnapped another person child  for  money ritual that is a bad habits, some  criminal will go ahead  and  rob people with guns and cutlass even along the line they can kill innocent people now if they are been caught people will be angry and if care is not taking they may be injured or died before the security personnel arrive. Therefore jungle justice is not  good let try and handover any criminal to the  police officer, but what makes people angry  sometimes is that  when  criminals are been handled over to the police the police will collect bail fees and the criminal will be released.

Jungle justice is a cruel way of getting justice. I believe people that engage is such ungodly act are inhumane. Only an heartless person can take the life of another.

They was case of a young man that was almost killed  for a crime he didn't commit. This young man was at the bus stop waiting for the next available bus to take to work, a lady standing close to him raised alarm that her five thousand naira have been stolen, pointing accusing fingers at the young man. They search the young man and find five thousand naira on him and the woman laid claims of the five thousand being hers. Immediately the mobs started beating this young man, they were about to set fire on him when the daughter of the lady brought the money to her mother telling her she left the money at home. Thank God for the life of that young man.
That is how most lives are been lost for no just course. Let say no to jungle justice.
We should stop the killing and let stop taking laws to our hands.

This has always been a sensitive issue when mentioned anywhere. I always feel indifferent to it depending on the circumstances.

If a heinous has been committed like murder in the process of armed robbery or rape and the culprit was caught red handed, then I support jungle justice. But in a case whereby a suspect was accused of committing a crime which he has not been proven guilty for, then I would not advise jungle justice to be meted out on such a person because he might be innocent.

In fact, this is why the police tries to step into a crime case as quickly as possible. If an innocent person dies by false accusations, his life cannot be restored.

Justice is legally right but jungle justice is legally wrong, either guilty or not.
It is dangerous in some cases where you are unable to carry out your investigations before taking judgement, and you went ahead to kill an innocent person, the blood will surely be on your head.
That is why evidence are suppose to be tendered before the law, and if it is concrete, you can now do a legal justice to the guilty criminal.
But, Cremation of human being alive is out of it, I did not and will never support that. It is against the law!.
I don't see any difference between those people and vampires. I see them as if they have no concience, heartless.
They have forgotten that they are also human being with flesh, and the Bible says; "he who kill with sword will surely be killed by sword".
Taking judgement from your hands is spiritually wrong.

Jungle justice has its advantage and disadvantage, but it is being used in a wrong way.
It's advantage to coupe or lower crimes in the country. Given the example jungle justice, fear will be created in the mind of people thereby crime will be difficult for them to commit.
As a youth, when you see your mate being cremated alive, would you still have the mind committing crime?. No. So that is it major purpose.
It's disadvantages are countless; it ends the life of many innocent, it brings empathy to many families, it hinders reconciliation, so on like that.
I will rather say jungle justice is not helping.

@Yetunde: : I totally agree with your view on the topic jungle justice as a wrong means a f approach to judge issues or nglee justice Ius. Jungle justice as it is is a way angry mob uses to give judgement in haste to a person receives ho commits crime in the community.

This means of judgement is giving to any person or group of people caught in different acts like stealing of items and properties of various kinds, the properties  can be vehicle generator and so on, some  steal money.

Jungle justice will be right only in any space/society or country called Banana Republic. It is unfortunate that the world itself, humans are of double-standard where impartiality is the bane. The rich folks escape with impunity when they commit crime while the poor is a morsel.

In a sane society, no one should be above the law. In a country like ours here when a rogue or political thugs or assailant(s) commit heinous crime and got caught, after all the media rants then a call will come from a higher side (godfather) that such person be released without any hassle and walk back into society freely and brags back people and as a matter of fact commit more that he is a demigod. Hence, such injustice has triggered incessant and unchecked attitude on the poor masses who then take the law into their hand knowing fully well that if the criminal gets taken by the police will get eventually released. It is a problem in our society and we must change our orientation.

Jungle justice is right ,there are some people out there with different types of characters which are very bad

Some one who kidnapped a little child of four years old and sell the part in pieces to the harbalist such individual should be seriously dealt with if caught by the people in the surrounding.

You see our problem is that when we caught a person who did bad or did evil we say that we should handel him or her to the security such as the police some time when you handel them to the police you wont hear anything again ,the police will collect money and release him or her ,that is the nature of our country.

Jungle justice is right I am talking about the experience which i had some years back , Nigeria is the home of criminal one of my course mate has a child that child is in primary three on her the child is 8 years old one day her way home the little child was been kidnapped and after two days they found her dead body the police did the investigation and it was successful ,now tell me someone like that if he was been given jungle justice i dont think there is nothing bad in it.
Criminals when handed over to the police ,police will ask of money and when police see money case closed.
Jungle justice is very right if anyone miss behav he can face jungle justice.

I witness jungle justice when I traveled to bayelsa state the man was burn with petro from head till toe.
Criminal caused damage in so many families some families are still on sorrow up till now ,many mothers have loose their children .

Nigeria is a corrupt country , they will say when criminal are been caught that we should handed them to the police if you headed them over to the police the family of the suspect will come and bail him or her.
Some years ago a guy demonstrated like a mad man ,not knowing that he is not a mad man but an original criminal in the mid night he usually operate with is gang to rob people in their home ,when he was been caught the police came to arrest him and after some weeks he was been released ,if we have known we should have practice jungle justice on them.

There is no justification for jungle justice. As for me, I see it as illegal act, because there is a law binding all citizens of a country, Even the government is not above the law. It is only the Court that can give necessary punishment to criminal, and that is how is it, not until jungle justice came to life.
If you kill a criminal without the consent of the law, you are also a criminal. Even if it is a defense, you will still serve your punishment, not talk of crucifying a criminal intentionally..you will also be killed because the punishment for murder is death, irrespective of the reason. You caught a thief in your street doesn't mean you should burn him to death at that spot, the right is to call the police, and hand over the person to them. Even though some police are corrupt, but you have done your part.

Am still wondering if those Judges and procecutors still have conscience, but what they do is illegal.. talking of jugle Justice, I don't think whoever does that have conscience at all.
Even the bible says, those who killed by sword shall be killed by sword. Muder is a sin and unlawful, so jungle justice is.
There is always a room for repentance.
