The Liverpool Fc captain, saw stiff competition from Manchester City Kevin De Bruyne and Manchester Uniteds Marcus Rashford, as well as teammates Virgil Van Dijk and Sadio Mane, to claim the award.

Liverpool Fc, dominance in the league was reflected in the voting as Trent Alexander -Arnold and Alisson Becker also received votes, but it was Henderson with more than a quarter of votes, who was the clear winner.
Reflecting on his win, Henderson said, "I'd like to say how appreciative I am of the support of those who voted for me and the Football Writers Association in general.
"You only have to look at the past winners of this Award, a number of whom I have been blessed to play with here in the club, like Stevie Gerrard, Luis Suarez, and Mo Salah to know how prestigious it is. But as grateful as I am I don't feel like I can accept this on my own. I don't feel like anything I've achieved this season or infact during my whole career was done on my own, I owe a lot to so many people, but none more than my current team mates who have just been incredible and deserve this every bit as much as I do.
He also said "we've only achieved what we've achieved because every single member of the squad has been brilliant. And not just in matches not just in producing the moments that make the headlines and the back pages but everyday in training. "
Henderson is the first Liverpool captain to lift the English Premier League title since 30years.

Well, Jordan has been instrumental for the team before getting injured. He also became the first captain to lift the English Premier league title, as the Reds ended a 30-year wait for a top-flight title.

It has been a standout year for club and country for the 30-year old, as Henderson captained Liverpool to the Champions League title in 2019,while the club also claimed the club world cup in December. He was also named the England national team's player of the year award in January 2020. Henderson has registered 4goals and 5assists in a league campaign which Liverpool have only tasted defeat on 3occasions and his instrumental contribution has now been recognized by the Football Writers Association across the country.
Ten other players also received votes from FWA members, including last year's winner Raheem Sterling, with Manchester United Aaron wan-bissaka, City's Sergio Aguero, Wolverhampton wanderers Adama Traore, Southampton Danny Ings, Aston Villa's playmaker and Uniteds target Jack Grealish, Leicester City's James Madison, and Jonny Evans. Henderson joins Arsenal Vivianne Miedema, who was named the Football Writers Association women's player of the year earlier this month.
A year ago it was Manchester City double as Sterling claimed the FWA's men's prize and Nikita Parris was named The Football Writers Association women's Footballer of the year. The footballer of the year trophy has been awarded since 1948 when Sir Stanley Mathews was its first recipients.

Jordan Henderson did well for Liverpool last season. I could remember when Jurgen Klop their current manager wanted to sell him, he called Henderson and asked him if he wanted to do something about his form and the Liverpool captain said he was ready to put more effort to get himself back to form. And now he has won the Football Writers Award Footballer of the year.

This, I'll say is the reward for hardwork and dedication. And it's also a big kudos to their manger for believing in him. His trust has been repaid by the captain.

I'll also like to give kudos to KDB Kelvin Debruyne. The man City mid fielder really tried this season and is also a deserves winner too assuming he won it. Unfortunately he didn't. He has been consistent for city ever since his arrival. And before the season ended, he tied the record for most assist in a single season held by Thirty Henry.

That trophy was well deserved by the iconic captain of liverpool Jordan Henderson. i could remember vivdly when ferguson made a demeaning statement about Henderson in his biblography in 2013, he said manchester united snubbed the idea of buying Henderson because "he noticed that Henderson runs from his knees, with a straight back, while the modern footballer runs from his hips." which practically means he was not good enough to be a member of his team. i could also remember when Brendan rodgers wanted to sell Henderson in a swap deal with Clint Dempsey but Henderson rejected the deal because he believed in himself and he knew he would achieved great height one day. no one ever saw this coming, and no one ever believed that a player like Henderson would attain such heights in his football career. This shows the extreme limit you can attain when you believe in yourself. kudos to Jordan Henderson once again
