Religion » Is There Spirit Of Poverty In Nigeria? by: Papafa(f) .:. Sat, 11 Apr, 2015 - 10:44:44:am GMT
Some time ago, i spoke with a relative of mine who used to campaign to people in Nigeria about the existence of the "spirits of poverty" and their activities in people's lives, he used to recommend them to pray and "cast" out these "demons" from their families.
And i've seen and heard people singing "Me, i no go suffer, i no go beg for food God of miracle, na my papa o"
It was impossible to convince him (my relative) that he imagined there are spirits of poverty because he was in Nigeria. Now, at the moment, he's in Canada, and few days ago, i asked him his new opinion about the spirit of poverty. He laughed and said "nonsense, i don't really think that there's any such thing like the spirits or demons of poverty".
My people, there is absolutely no such demons like "spirits of poverty" If there is any entity responsible for poverty: that entity is/are the leader(s) of the countries.
What do you expect, some greedy evil humans (in the positions of leaders) are enriching themselves with what is supposed to be used for the benefit of all people, now, the people are so poor that they need "miracles" to get food to eat, and you blame the devil for it?
Come to think about this: is it actually a miracle to feed, why are the Americans or the Europeans not praying for "miracle" for food?
Food is surplus hence there are obese people everywhere, so those who maintain slim figures are considered as human models.
The holy book says: "remove the wicked from the throne, and his kingdom will be established in righteousness".
What do you think, are there spirits/demons of poverty? comments please.

i so much agree that there is nothing like spirit of poverty. well, one can say what is working on the leaders is the spirit of poverty which accumulate wealth to the few and make the rest very poor. but on the natural, the reason to this poverty in this country called Nigeria is the leaders. lets say for example this present President Buhari, since he came into power, the country has experience their worst experience of poverty. even the so called rich also cry. its so bad that people commit suicide every now and then. imagine a President who keep blaming the previous government that they mismanage funds, and i asked my self, what is now his own agenda. because almost 4years, nothing was done in any sector and all seems to be on the lock down.

Nigeria need to vote in credible leaders to leave the present poverty state

My Dear, don't get it wrong...

You know what?...
When I was very small then, whenever I see the white people, that's the Americans and the rest, I use to think they don't have poor people among them.

So, I just to be like I want to be living in America, the land of the rich. There are no poor people there, not like Nigeria that is filled with poor people.

But when I grew wiser, I became to understand that There are lot of poor people among them like Nigeria.

If you grew up in the poor areas, where you struggle to eat and have a shelter, you will think the government is not trying at all, you will say the rich people are wicked for not helping all the poor.

But I really want to ask you, how many can they help?

This America And other countries we are talking about also have very poor people, some of their people are worsted than beggers in Nigeria.

@gentleman1: when we say Nigeria is poor. That means we are trying to say, the country itself is poor. Which is not true.

Nigeria is rich. We have what it takes to enjoy life in this country.

In money aspect, Nigeria is not poor. Even in resources. Nigeria has enough resources. Nigeria is blessed with resources.

Nigeria is only poor if we are going to talk about electricity and roads. We all know how bad our roads in this country are. And also the poor electricity.

We have the resources but the so called rulers have refused to use them in the right way they should be use.

There is money in this country enough to make every person in this country live a worthy life but those squandering the money has made life difficult for others.

We now have high rate of poor people.

Like the president said, our youths are lazy. He is right. Many don't want to work. They want to make quick and free money.

Nobody wants to hustle... We all want to bubble.

@Velisa: is Nigeria truly poor? Nigeria is not a poor country all we have are politicians who have good intention for only their family, thereby diverting the money that belongs to the mass to themselves. How will you expect such country to be poverty free. The worst part of it is that after diverting this money, nobody will make attempt to arrest them. If anyone tried to do that, they will decamp to the rulling party and that's all.

Second reason why Nigeria is still poor is because. The kind of orientation given to them from primary school is that they will finish primary school, finish secondary School, go for first degree then the next next move is to look for work that will be paying them monthly. You can never be receiving salary monthly and become wealthy. So the mentality of the citizens needs to be change.

The truth remains that there are evil and wicked spirits in high places causing misfortune and various kinds of negative issues to human beings. This does not justify the assertion that all happening is from demons or one spirit or the other.

One of the problem is that we have been made to believe that all kind of misfortune is controlled or organized by the devil or his agents. Most people have left what they are supposed to do and are faced with unreality of this world.

The word of God makes it clear that there is no food for a lazy man. Right from the fall of Adam and Eve man has been made to till the earth and to work very hard before making food to be on the table and this has been so ever since.

Some people believe that they are cursed and that their family or their lineage can never be prosperous. I must say frantically that this is not true as God's word will always prevail. What we all need to learn and to put into practice is how to work and make good money and the principle that guides this.

The spirit of poverty whether here in Nigeria or not can not hold any one down if we apply the principle of riches and rightly apply the word of God as this is the seal to avoid any kind of doubt or belief of various kinds that there is a spirit of poverty in Nigeria. Apply the right principle and that is it.

So, are you suggesting that there are normal people who are not junkies, who have not waste their life on reckless living, and yet, they are dealing with poverty to the extent that they can't feed themselves in Europe or America?
Well, i will tell you something, i have never seen a European normal person who is so poor that he cannot afford to buy a car.

U strongly believe there's no such thing as the spirit of poverty in Nigeria.

I don't think the politicians are the problem of Nigeria.

I believe the problem of Nigerians are the citizens.

This is based on the fact that we voted these politicians to rule over us out of our greedy and selfish desires.

Right now we are facing the consequences of our actions.

There's no spirit of poverty in Nigeria.

The problem with most Nigerians is that most of us are too spiritual.

The pastor in most churches preach alot about spirituality.

They tell you what you want to hear when things are not going right with you because they want to make money from you.

The truth still remains that there's no such thing as spirit of poverty.

@gentleman1: I too don't believe in the existence of every spirit of poverty in Nigeria. The problem is just people's mentality in Nigeria. Some Nigeria believe that if youbare rich it is from the devil, some even believe the person is in a secrete cult. So with this type of mentality how do you expect the country or the people in the country to be poverty free.

To some to be rich is a sin. But all this thing at not true. They is nothing like spirit of poverty in the country. If their mentality about poverty can change then poverty will be a little bit released in Nigeria.I believe a new Nigeria will soon arise. No doubt poverty is carrying a poufld voice in Nigeria but we believe everything will be fine soon. Let's just stop believing in this spirit of poverty of a thing in Nigeria. Let's change our mentality, lets be creative, drop religion aside.

This post is quite funny. In my opinion, there is something called the spirit of poverty just as you have the spirits of lust, drunkenness, partying etc.

The point is that it is not particularly peculiar to Nigeria or Nigerians, but the world over.

The major problem is that in Nigeria,we have issues of bad governance and this affects those who are still struggling to become relevant in life. A spirit will always look for opportunities or loopholes to operate and this will have adverse effects on some people.

Nigerians have the spirit of survival ,this is why they make it big time once they step out to advanced countries.

The environment your cousin lives in now, is one that has enabled him to either make it or live a comfortable life.

The environment in Nigeria is not an enabling one for many starters in life.

Hence, the spirit of poverty seems to find a ready ground to operate in people's lives.

@Gooddypye: You are so correct with this points you highlighted as it regards the poverty even in developed countries like America, China, Korea, India, Germany, Russia and others.

I think Africans have so much made it look like when people are poor it's the spirit of poverty and the likes but I stand to correct that there is no single truth in that.

The developed countries today as they are referred to were much more under developed many years back but they all got it right through selfless service and true patriotism to their countries.

They tend to have good plans for their countries and their citizens by using their God given brain positively to the benefits of the whole country not allowing any kind of selfishness to over take them.

They plan for the present and also the future and they work towards it for the benefit of their countries at large and this seems to go on them positively and making them to develop very fast.

But the Africans are different from the way they look, act and see things. The plans first is for the immediate benefits of themselves and their family allowing these to affect the economy.

Then if the economy is affected then it goes on the citizens as their rights are eaten up and mismanaged, this increasing the poverty ratio in the country. If all these can be attended then the mentality would change on the take of a spirit of poverty.

@Fashnet: nice write up.

From what you stated it's very obvious our governments or politicians are not the problem of the country.
We the citizens are the problems of the country.

We are the reason why it looks like the level of poverty in Nigeria looks pronounced.

This is because we have failed to perform our right as citizens.

If we don't change positively, things would get worse.

There is poverty in Nigeria ,what I am concerned with is the word spirit of poverty, smile,
Pastors are the ones who lead prayer in Church and you will hear pastor saying the spirit of poverty go out in Jesus name alright. You as a pastor you ask someone who does not have or you as a pastor you see someone who is living in poverty and you can not give him or her money and food what you do is that you pray for her then you are wrong.

Since you can not help him or her then all your prayers that the spirit of poverty should go is in vain .
If you see anyone around you who is in need help him .
God bless you all.

Nigeria is a country with suffering and smiling but the word spirit of poverty is very elaborated because out of one hundred percentage of Nigeria citizens eighty percent are poor while twenty percent are rich.

There is spirit of poverty in Nigeria because it is what we can see and feel in our community .

There are some people who are unable to get a meal In a day , the rate of poverty In this country is large .

Only god can help us to change the situation of things in this country.
Spirit of poverty exists in Nigeria and is rampad only god can help us out.
