Programming/Web-Development » Income of a web designer by: Kenny11973(m) .:. Mon, 10 Nov, 2014 - 11:12:13:am GMT
I was just playing around these Nigerian job portals when i saw this Job Ad: We seek to appoint a junior Web Developer/ Designer with a high degree of technical competency that will focus on front end and back end development. The ideal person will be able to work with Joomla, Drupal, Wordpress and Concrete 5 is added advantage. • Applicant must have 2-3 years as Webmaster, Content Developer, Graphics Design, and Website design. • Strong database skills. • A very good knowledge in the following is a plus: PHP/Microsoft.Net (C#), CMS, .NET 2.0 Skills, CSS, Coldfusion, Adobe Suites and MYSQL/SQL, HTML, Javascript, AJAX and related development technologies. Salary: N30, 000 â€" N45, 000/month. Now, something that makes my heart beat faster is the Salary. I don't know the standard monthly income for web development professionals in Nigeria but if this is within the standard, then It is really poor. Or is it fair to anybody who has experience in all these technologies they requested to be earning even 60,000 Naira monthly? What do you think. ?

The salary (for all these requirements) is questionable indeed.

Where did you find the advert?

That's why they said a junior web developer/designer. No talented and successful will accept such salary. Instead of working under someone as a web designer, why don't he or she work alone. Start up something by yourself. Just a single website design can yield you 20k profit or even more than, let's now talk of when you create like two websites in a week. Guess how much you'll be earning at the end of the month.

All you need is connection, reach out to people and set out something for yourself. Let people know what you are good at. Advertise what you do and let people see it. It's just a matter of time. Within some months, you'll be making your own cool money instead of working under someone who'll be paying you little cash monthly.

With the whole stress involve, I won't want to start earning that kind of money for creating website. The last website I created was closely 50k I collected. Imagine, I've collected the salary for just one website.

Meanwhile, if you are still a new web designer. If you don't have much experience yet or don't know much people. You can work under someone, at least the company won't be creating website everyday, it might just be like four times a month, and that will improve your knowledge and make you know more people.

That's what is happening now o. With all the plenty requirement and work experience, you will see one meagre salary attached. I don't know if they are trying to encourage people or discourage them.

How funny... Considering the job description, it takes ample time to learn and acquire all these skills. I won't have these skills as a beginner and settle for that salary, it's too small.

Website, web Applications and Web portals all have massive importance in the development and passing of information in ample time, just at the click of a single button. There are various sites placed on the internet, such as amazon.com, facebook.com, twitter.com and other popular sites. Beneyoyo Forum is also an example of a web app that is built by a high skilled and trained web developer. Before we dive in to the income of a web developer, lets know the who a web developer is. Who is a Web developer? A web developer is someone who understands how the web works, writes code in several languages related to the web, all based on the user's (clients) specifications.

Now, web developers primarily or best put majorly type the codes unlike web designers that gives the major outlook of a web site, its beauty and attractiveness. Although, a web developer should have knowledge in design skills as he/she will make use of them in most scenarios also. To be a web developer, there are some certain qualities the individual must possess, they must be good at critical thinking, good problem solvers, good communications skills, emotional intelligence, ability to work with a group of other developers (team work), and so on, but the listed one above are the most important traits of a web developer.
A web developer have different classifications, from being a front end developer which involves designing what the clients or users will see when they visit the web site, A back end developer which involves the server side and the major actions carried out on the site linking to the database and servers that makes it easy for authentication, sending of messages, uploading of files and so on, to being a Full Stack developer whicj encompasses both the front end and Back end development - understands both front end and back end programming. These individuals in this field with proficient understanding in languages and at least an associate degree, bachelor's, masters, doctoral degrees or of any allowed degrees can be fit to apply for a position in a company. Although, some companies now look for developers with experience rather than the degrees. That aside, the major income of a developer according to research is around close to a million,  on an annual basis (average annual salary), depending on their experience, new entry developers can make upto 30,000 to 60,000 if good enough in development. The languages expected for a web developer includes, HTML, CSS and Javascript. It further spans to PHP, pythkn, various Frameworks like Bootstrap, Jquery, Ajax, Json and others for the backend or server side. Web developers are on high demand and ever sought for during this coming years. It does not look as if the job will leave the market anytime soon.
