Culture » IS IT CHEAPER LIVING IN NIGERIA THAN EUROPE AND US? by: Ogiejoe(m) .:. Tue, 01 Jun, 2021 - 09:26:01:pm GMT
First, I heard a notable politician in Nigeria saying that Nigeria is cheaper to live in than living in Europe and America and he reasoned that in Nigeria a man can eat food with #300 but in Europe and America, a man cannot eat food with £1 or 1$ in US and Europe. He also argued that foreigners when they come to Nigeria with currency, they achieve a lot with their their money here in Nigeria.

It may look so, knowing that one Euro or One Dollar is almost five hundred or four hundred Naira in Nigeria and Dollar is presently rising daily.

But the obvious thing here is that to make that Naira in Nigeria is very difficult as there is unemployment everywhere and the ones that are working are being paid little and spending the 400 Naira or 500 Naira is hard depending on the individual.

A lot is going on in Nigeria that making money is becoming almost impossible as only few are recycling the money within themselves in the country whereas in Europe and America, jobs are easy that they can have up to 2 jobs at the same time and lack is not there.
The Minimum wage in Nigeria is like 10% if not 5% compared to Minimum wage in America and Europe.

That is my view on why it is easier and cheaper to live in Europe and America than in Nigeria

From my own point of view, I think it is cheaper to live in Europe than in Nigeria.
The cost of living in Nigeria, most especially in Lagos state is very high.
The worse part of it is that in Nigeria we lack basic social amenities.
Like good pipe borne water, electricity, good roads etc
These basic amenities we lack in Nigeria is what Nigerians spend most of their salaries on. That is how bad it is in this country.
Compared to Europe where these amenities are available.
If you say that the standard of living in Europe is very high compared to Nigeria, then why is it that people that eventually travel to Europe do not like to come back.

I think the way to look at this topic is some way is different to the way it has been compared because currencies are different and the way it operates in a certain countries are also different.

For example in Nigeria the amount of naira and what I can afford right here in this country is different from converting it into Euro or converting it to dollar and to spend it will be very difficult because it must have lost its value.

The way to look at this again is if someone is in the United kingdom the currency they use like dollar over there and what it can afford will be different from what Nigeria currency can afford over there.

For more clarification right here in Nigeria if you want to eat a meal at N300 if you look at the value of that 300 naira in dollars you find out that it is very minute and if you want to use that same dollar to buy a meal abroad like in the United kingdom or the United States of America, you'll find out that it will be very difficult to do this.

Though my point and my stand is that it is cheaper living abroad because they get more payment for their services than in Nigeria. Though if the same amount it converted to naira it will look costlier.

The cost of living in Nigeria most especially in Lagos state and Abuja is very high.
When u go to the market to get food stuffs, the exact price u'll get your food stuff would be totally different from the exact price u'll get it when next you go.
The prize of things keep going high every day while salaries are static.
The government has been trying to inflict hardship on people, so that people would be left with no choice but to accept whatever bribe or tip being given to them before election.
The standard of living in Europe might be expensive and high but it is not as high as that of Nigeria.

@lilcent:

The issue is that right now, one Dollar is now 500 Naira. imagine that. So, imagine a Euro now 700 Naira. If Someone is Europe comes to Nigeria, and he goes to a fast food, he could be a Heavy meal with just 2 Euro.
In Nigeria a married man with kids might just work a full day and be paid 1,500 Naira which is exactly 2 Euro. So, All he will work for in a full day is just 2 Euro.
A lot are working in Nigeria more than half of the population in Nigeria are actually earning less than a 100Euro in a full month. Think about that

@ogiejoe: Well you are actually right about that.
We live in a country where the country works for the politicians instead of the politicians working for the country.
The cost of things keep getting higher and higher every single day.
Right now our leaders are not concerned about what is going on because they are not affected.
Infact our leaders are trying to sell hardish and suffering to us so that it's going to be very easy for them to buy our votes during election.
I hope things get better in this country, but not with the kind of president that we have right now.

I can't actually say that it is cheaper living in America than living in Nigeria but my contribution is that when you have a good income or allowance it is also cheap to live in Nigeria.

I believe there are some people living in abroad that it is very hard for them to get meal ,so therefore any where you found yourself believe that with god all things are possible.

Living in America or Nigeria doesn't mean anything all what we have to do is to pray to God for more blessings from above, and to have success in all our endavour.
Thanks.
