If you don't let people know you're pleased with them, they will quit. People come to work for a whole lot of reasons - most, nothing to with money despite what they'll tell you - and there at the top of unspoken list will be 'praise from the boss '.

They might called it 'recognition ' or 'acknowledgement' or 'feeling I've done well'. How do they know? They know because you tell them.

Now you can praise them. Wait until they have done good and then tell them they have done good. Or you encourage them in advance (active praise ). Tell them they're going to do good before they've done it. Why? Because the chances of them doing good are that much greater if you have praised them in advance. They won't let you down, or themselves.

Being a manager, you want to build a great team and you want to do it with the smallest output of resources. Praise is free. It's instantly replaceable and it doesn't wear out. It is simply to do and takes no time at all.

So why don't managers do it? Because it takes self assurance. You have to feel good about yourself to be able to dish out praise well in advance. If you doubt yourself you doubt them. If you doubt them you will not praise them because you believe they will screw up.
It takes nothing except courage to say, 'come on, you can do it. You will be fine. Praise cost nothing and brings in loads.
Encourage an atmosphere where everyone encourages everyone else. You can do it should be heard everyday around you. If you are not saying it, they won't either. Encourage the good ones to give the less good one a hand up. We are in these all together and we will do sink or swim together.

I don't support the idea of praising worker even before he does anything that requires praise. You can say you are really trying. It's better to put it that way than to say you are going to do a great job. That will only come up when the worker is on a project and you find out he's doing it well. But if the worker is on a project and he's performing poor. You have to let him know the reality that he has to put more effort. It's better to encourage than to praise. That's just the true fact of him. Make him know he's wrongs than he can quickly amend it. Then once he amends it rightly. You can now praise him. You can praise someone performing poor. That is why every worker in any organization is expected to work hard cause you are been paid for what you are doing. So, you don't expect the manager to start praising you even when you've not performed well

Despite the fact that he paid you for the job and he wants a perfect job that is why he has employed you into the company. Then you have to work hard to gain praise. It's right to encourage workers by letting them know their wrong and right and still making them know you are not going to throw them out once they bag into any mistake.

Encouraging your worker is a very good thing.

How we can encourage our worker.

Let others make important decisions. When you allow your employees to make important decision, you are encouraging them to lead. When they are empowered to make decisions that matter and can affect the organization, they see themselves as leaders.

Give them more responsibility. When you give an employee more responsibility you are expressing faith in their abilities. The moment they take on more responsibility is the moment they can say,"Yes, I am stepping up." To cultivate more leaders, give them more to be accountable for-and let them know the price of influence is responsibility.

Help them plan their future. To empower your employees, help them plan for the future. Get them to take responsibility for their own career opportunities through special assignments and special projects that take them down their chosen path.

Trust them. Trust is the glue that binds people together. To engage your people to lead begins by giving trust, and the only way to do that is to overcome the need to be in constant control. Ground your own leadership in trust and you set the example for those who come after to do likewise.

Push their limits. Sometimes people need a little push on their limits to avoid becoming stagnant . Without encouragement to stretch, people tend to say in their comfort zone. It's your job to induce them into the kind of discomfort that produces growth.

To encourage one is to mentally support or motivate one to do better. Encouraging one's workers is of great importance. Encouraging workers goes a long way to improve their output. They feel motivated to do more.

You could encourage people by recognizing their work, people love it when their work is recognized. It outweighs criticism (negative ones) and helps them build their self confidence. It helps to provide them with energy to accomplish the company's objective. Words of encouragement works like energy pills that can give us the strength that we need to overcome the obstacles that lay between us and our objectives.

Demonstrate your trust in their abilities, radiate positivity it keeps them alive. You could also encourage them by communicating clear vision. It gives thembthe assurance that you know what you're doing and they would know how to help.

Most workers once employed, they neglect improving themselves. You should encourage them to take training courses that would benefit them and add to their work experience.

Always make sure you encourage your workers, yelling at them doesn't do the trick. Because you are the boss doesn't mean you say so offensive stuff to your employees or you cut they salaries short. Always make your employees free around you so that they can be comfortable sharing ideas on how to take your business to next level.

Business grows faster when there is team work. There won't be any improvement in the company if there is no team work included.

Employees sometimes make mistake but that what makes them human. When an employee makes a mistake correct them in the nicest way possible.

Encouraging one another in the office makes the atmosphere of the office positive.

I believe in encouraging your workers, most workers needs that encouragement in order to work efficient. While I was teaching then my boss would always go around checking on the teachers and when she sees you are not getting somethings well she gently shows you how it's done and commend you on your past work, the way you don't feel bad, ashamed or belittled. When we go out atimes for awareness at the end of the exercise she buys some stuffs and give to us as a way of appreciating without knowing she is also encouraging us. We have to the rights to stay back home during this period but because we know that at the end of the day we get to have something no matter how small it is. At the end of a term she gives us gift and says thank you to us because she knows it's not easy teaching kids and hope that we don't get tired. I feel when you encourage your workers you just put them on another gear which makes the worker faster and fun for all of you. You don't always have to give money or buy something, your kind words, the fact that you show concern towards them is enough. Encouraging them not only help your worker but it helps you. How do you feel going out and hearing only good things about yourself when you move out of your comfort zone.

Encouragement is a work place currency. Managers are to pay close attention to the medium that can be used to encourage employees. Every employee will prefer a hundred times and over to work in an organization that makes the encouragement of it's employee a priority after the primary goal to deliver effectively to it's clientele.

Managers are to take note of the efficiency of employees in the delivery of their job description. The consciousness of managers to the delivery of employees will make them know when an employee is doing well on the job. As much as an employee is keeping up with qualitative delivery in the organization, it is expected of the manager to encourage such employee to keep the good work up. Encouraging employees motivates them to do better when tasks is being assigned and that generally will boost the productivity of the organization.

There should be a provision for a human resource manager (at least a generalist) in any organization that is aiming for the top in it's area of specialization because human resource managers are trained generally to communicate actively with employee and they have Knowledgeable about work place behavior. Adequate knowledge about work place behavior let's human resource managers in on the bright and shallow response of employees to work. Overall, a human resource manager is actively involved in forging workers on by encouraging them as they get tasks done excellently.

Encouragement can be in various forms such as; incentive, words etc

INCENTIVES: Organizations should make proper plans to give incentive to employees that are distinctive in task delivery. Mostly, incentives are in monetary terms. For instance if there is a rise in sales for a period of time during the financial year, the organization should reasonably award incentives to the employees that worked cooperatively for the rise in sales. That form of encouragement will enhance future delivery of tasks by the employees.

WORDS: Words are powerful and can energize or demoralize a person. Giving good remarks will encourage the employees in the organization to give their best to the delivery of task.

Running an organization requires a lot of input and at that managers should be responsible for encouraging employees for maximum productivity in thw organization.

Encouraging your workers.
Encouraging your workers, is not only workers that needs to be encouraged, even subordinates, also needs to be encouraged.

How can a worker be encouraged, encouraging your workers, is not only by praising them, after a good job has been done, or good sales has sold, you start praising them, yes this is part of it, but incentives needs to added also.

Moreso, don't be a boss that is too perfect, yes, too perfect.
A boss that does not take new and creative ideas, as long as it is coming from your subordinates, it is ruled off.

Some boss, do say how can my employee or my staff advice me.
Sir and Ma, no one is an island.
Your staff or subordinate, can bring a creative ideas on how the company will maximize profit.
Don't shout that staff or subordinate down for an idea she or he raised, it might be an idea that will give the company a new brand, a brand that will blow the mind of the consumers.

I have this boss, he never takes correction from his subordinates, never, he will tell you I am a proud person, I know it all, I call him Mr perfect.

Do you know a day will come, when a subordinate will see a danger, that will implicate the boss, he or she will not let the boss know, reason being that the boss will not take correction, or buy the idea.

This kind of persons do not end well, their end is always disastrous.

If you are a boss reading this article, encourage your workers, or people under studying you.

I must say this, all these boss, that goes to villages to pick little boys from their parents to train them in a trade, or business, stop using harsh words to your workers. The way these people insult and lay causes and abuses on these little ones, God have mercy.

Encourage your worker no matter how little that boy or girl under you might be, he or she deserves a good treatment, and better reward.

@Gooddypye: hope you know that when you praise them like telling praising them about the last job well done it will boost their abilty in doing the remaining work.  Even God enjoys been praise when you do that He allows more miracles and breakthrough to come your way. Same as to man. Praising them is just as if you are adding or catalysing their ability.

Re: Encouraging your workers by: Sardyne(f) .:. Fri, 28 Aug, 2020 - 08:05:01:pm GMT

This is so true.. praising your workers is not something that should be too difficult to do. People tend to want to do their best when they know there is a level of expectation their bosses have concerning them. Not eye pleasing par say, but doing their best to maintain that impression their bosses have of them. Even if there is no form of benefits in terms of finance especially, they will still want to be on top of their game. It's called recognition". Every one wants to be recognized for something.

So, please if you have people who are working for/under you, you should try to acknowledge their work sometimes. It makes them feel someone else noticed their presence. Something as little as "welldone" goes a long way to boost someone's morale. So even if you get to scold the person for one reason or the other, the person will understand that truly he/she has not done something right.

The best part of showing some concern and sense of acknowledgement to your workers is by asking them some personal questions. Not many might like people asking them personal questions though, but as a leader or head, you should know the individual character of those who work under you so you can be sure of the approach to take. If you also have the means to help, especially financially, don't withhold your hands from doing good. It goes a long way.

One of the best ways for any manager to inspire his or her workers is by encouraging them at work and praise them when the finally do the job well. Everything in live has its good and bad side so in this case the manager has to look for a way to moderate it because when the manager does it too much, the workers might start taking advantage of that previledge.

A good source of motivation to bring out the best from your workers is by encouraging them at work. This helps makes them more productive and wants to do the job deligently and not just for the money.

A manager that really wants to be productive must have a good reinforcement skill. Positive reinforcement should be given to workers who show positive responses while negative reinforcement should be given to workers who show negative responses.
Reinforcement simply means the reward for a particular behaviour portrayed by any individual.

I used to work at a private secondary school few years back and I could clearly remember that the major reason I left that school was because the proprietress was poor when it comes to encouraging workers. She can encourage you once and back it up with 100 insults and she was too pompous and for someone like me I hate oppression. So when she was doing it for others, I didn't say anything but the day she did the same for me, I told her my stand immediately and from that day I made up my mind I was going to resign. She said all sorts of things but it didn't change my mind. The following year I was now in my final year in university and then I stumbled upon her in my school. She was actually rounding up her project for her post-graduate studies and she needed to distribute her questionnaire to final year students in my school but she was finding it difficult because they were not responding. So she asked me to help her, but the first thing that came to my mind was her bad attitude towards her workers and how she insults them. I almost told her to go and insult the students since they didn't respond well to her because that was the way she treated workers but I just smiled and called my colleagues and started pleading with them and I even had to lie on her behalf that she was good too me when I worked for her. You needed to see the way she was thanking me that day because she herself said it that she didn't think I was going to assist her because of the way we parted ways back then.

So, for me it's better for all managers to encourage their workers but they should look for a way to do it right.

Encourage a person mean confidence or hope.is good to encourage your worker's, for instance where I stay if I cooked for them they we say thank you and after finish eating they we say thank you God bless you ,by saying that to me it give me strength to cook again for them no matter how I tired.they don't think that they are the one provide the food. Please let learn how to appreciate or encourage people around us not only our worker's. Some people will think that they can not do it but if you tell he/her that he can do it,it will have strength to try it. Please let know how to encourage not to discourage.

Encouraging your workers always goes a long way in making your business or establishment grow.

It surely will not cost a business owner anything to show appreciation to his work force ,be it in cash or kind.
Surprisingly, some bosses think they are doing the worker a big favor by giving encourage ment or showing appreciation for the efforts they put into the organization.
They geek it might get into the head of the worker & cause him to either become proud or nonchalant.

In most cases, encouraging your workers does more good than harm.

I read almost everyone's post, some support the ideal of praising your workers even before they do the work you assign to them while some felt the motion is wrong.

One thing I hate most in this life is lies. No matter how little the lie is, I hate it. See just be sincere, just say the truth always, why do you have to lie about anything to your workers after all they are under you, they are your workers! Without you, they won't be getting the small change in their hand no matter how old they may be than you, they are under you and you have no reason whatsoever in this life to lie them.
Right now am in the house of my sister's friend who so much believe you can only teach people that they will  be able to learn after you must have shout and rain insults on them. She is always proud to say this. And that is exactly how she deals with people. She will shout and rain insults on you over even the smallest of thing. She feels this is the right way. Just yesterday she said she used to be sluggish easy going like most of her workers were but someone changed her that's why she can't even calm down for one second and do things calmly, she said its a very bad trait because of the kind of world we live in.
I so much believe this isn't right at all, she is not aware that even though this people depend on her for survival, they will only fear you, they can never respect and love you truly. There are some people that shouting and making them feel that they are nothing and belittling them is what they need but there are people that the only way you can get their best service is to be very careful with them, when they do it right, Appreciate and tell them they do well, this is the only way they grow, they can't grow under shouting and demoralizing, its only destroy them.
No matter the kind of person you are dealing with, please appreciate people when they have done well. Just be sincere always, it's aren't that stressful now.
Am the kind of person that do well when am corrected in love and appreciated when I do well.

When you encourage your workers as a manager.

                                It enables them maximum productivity.
Your workers are willing to give their best.
Inorder to make things work effectively in the company.
When there's no encouragement, alot of workers lack the commitment to work effectively.
They also lack the tendency to give their best.
It is advisable for managers to provide an extrinsic motivation to their workers.
This is based on the fact that when there's a reward for a target or a job.
Workers are motivated to give their very best in the various jobs assigned to them.

@nagiano: you are right about managers encouraging workers.

I could remember what Ikay Gundogan talked about Jürgen Kloop.
Ikay Gundogan said that Jürgen Kloop is kind of coach.
That would motivate his players to give his best for him.
Gundogan also said that Jürgen Kloop is a player that you're willing to give your life for.
That is how motivating the coach can be.
When managers encourage their workers, they work effectively for them.
This results in high productivity in the company.

It is an important factor and mode to employ at work to your staffs or workers. I did this when I was a supervisor in a hotel and I got a 100% loyalty from staffs. This approach hardly be employed by bossy folks but for any wise person on the management team will do this wisely. Money don't buy loyalty and loyalty to the job as stake is sacrosanct.

In every organization the workers should be given adequate encouragement in other to boost their ability of working perfectly.

Some time it is not about the salary you give to them but your attitude as a boss, your way of talking, the way you approach them.

Some people work in a place because of the way the leader treats them ,encouragement is part of how you treat your subordinate so that they will perform their task as expected.

Many African employers make the mistake of not encourage their staff.
This is one reason many organizations are not making it on a broader scale.

You get back from your employees what you give in to them.

At the same time, some employees begin to feel too important once they start receiving praises from their bosses.
It's a two way thing

This is very true.
God bless you.

I wish many employers will learn this truth.

This relationship between employer and employee is equal and opposite. The employer is not better than the employee. The employer needs the employee as well as the employee needs the employer.

Most employers become rude and ungrateful because they think that they are doing the employee a favour. But the truth is that they're both doing each other a favour.

The difference is the job discreptions. Their responsibilities are deferent.

When someone does something appreciate them. Vice versa.

May we receive wisdom.

Praising your workers is very essential if you want your business to thrive. Many bosses don't know how to celebrate their workers. All they know how to do is to query their workers whenever they did something bad but never for once encourage them for good work.

A business owner should emulate some traits from the federal government. We all see the way the federal government treats workers, especially during the festive period: the amazing thing is that the federal government doesn't just treat them well during the festive period alone there's a certain package for their welfare.

It's good as a business owner to emulate such traits and appreciate your workers before this year runs out. You can decide to do a mini-get together or buy something that can be shared with them all. When doing such a thing it is advisable to it do according to your budget: don't do what you regret.

Yes, encouraging your workers is a good practice as it can lead to many benefits for both the workers and the company. Encouragement can help boost employee morale, motivation, and engagement, which can lead to increased productivity and job satisfaction.

When workers feel appreciated and valued, they are more likely to be loyal to the company and take pride in their work. Encouraging workers can also help create a positive work environment, which can benefit the overall company.
It's important to note that encouragement should be genuine. Also having a bit of fun moment between the employer and the employee can create a positive atmosphere, that makes the employee want to do more just to gain the smile of his or her employer. Encouragement such as bonuses and incentives can go a long way. But over do it, most persons loves to take someone friendly attitude for granted. If company or simple business in Nigeria, takes this into consideration and act, most of the Nigerian's business will be much better.
