Music/Radio » BLISTERS AND CALLUSES FOR DRUMMER by: Osaroju(m) .:. Sun, 24 Jan, 2021 - 10:40:43:pm GMT
Is having Blisters and Calluses a good thing or a bad thing, and can they be avoided by a Drummer...?

Well, blisters are definitely not a good thing. But it also doesn't automatically mean that they are a bad thing.

Calluses and blisters are determined to a great extent by the duo of your technique and how long you play, and so if you are take for example, a drummer that chips in say 10, 15 or 20 minutes of practice a day, say 4-5 days a week, and you are then getting blisters, that's definitely a bad thing (meaning that it is not a good thing), and you should immediately begin to check your technique, because you definitely have a technique problem and that's why you are getting blisters.

If you are however a drummer that is seeing a lot of action, week in week out, playing 2-3 consecutive straight hours, 5-7 days a week and you are then getting blisters, while blisters are still not a good thing, cause they can be painful, it is now *an expected thing* due to all the friction and heat your hands will are generating.

So to a great extent, proper technique can help you escape and avoid blisters, but eventually, if you whoop the drums long enough, regardless of technique, you will get blisters. That's what's what.

I should say finally that blisters are not badges of honor. We all get them true.
But the same way under play is a sin, is the same way over play is too. Give your hands some rest often it helps.

I have heard of people who have blisters layered over blisters on their palms, so much so their palms are now like the bark of a tree. Now, it's so bad for them, they cannot even operate their own Android and Touch phones, because the calibration of their phones, simply does not recognize it's been touched because of all the calluses present on their hands. There is no honor in that please.

If you just have to and must play back to back long hours, make sure to always check your grip, and technique and if you can, try to wear gloves.

I Hope This Helps You...
