A farmer identified as Abidemi Dairo, has been allegedly shot by some men of the Nigeria Customs Service right in front of his house in Sarumi, Ilaro,Ogun State.

The officers were reportedly pursuing suspected smugglers who were transporting bags of rice on motorcycles across Ifedapo village when the incident occured on Saturday.

When the police visited the scene, they only picked bullets shells at the victim's house, whose walls were destroyed with bullets.

Dairo claimed to be relaxing in front of his house when he was shot.
Upon apprehending the smugglers , they returned to where his house is and opened fire in front of the house and he was hit by their bullets.

Dairo screamed and they left. His children and neighbors took him to Ilaro Police Station and thereafter, to a hospital.

Dairo's friend, Abinuwaye Ajayi, who confirmed the incident, queried why the officers shot the victim even after apprehending the smugglers.

A neighbor also said that the Customs Officers have not deemed it fit to visit his friend Dairo but the police had been coming.

The Customs Public Relations Officer ,Zone A, Peter Duniya, said he was not aware of the incident.
